In the lobby, a sign hailed the 25th anniversary of the band's wispy logo, designed by Roger Dean. Anderson on vocals, Steve Howe on guitar, Chris Squire on bass and Alan White on drums - and a newer guitarist and keyboardist, the band epitomized the classic-rock reunion tour. With four of its members from the 70's - Mr. Its concert at the Beacon Theater on Wednesday night was the first of three sold-out shows. Yet long after its last big hit, the uncharacteristically concise ''Owner of a Lonely Heart'' in 1983, Yes has loyal fans. Few of its songs bother with romance Jon Anderson's lyrics prefer, instead, to preach about cosmic dreams and the meaning of life. It exploded them with tempo-changing interludes and sudden quick squiggles, moving arbitrarily from folky strumming and high harmonies to boogie-band riffs to bulldozing bass lines. Yes had little interest in pop song forms. Rarely has a hit-making band been so devoted to musical tangents. ![]() ![]() Two decades after its commercial heyday, Yes remains one of the strangest pop aberrations of the 1970's.
